Our institution

The University of Basra was founded on April 1st, 1964. In its first academic year of 1964-1965, it started with five colleges (Science, Engineering, Economics, Law, and Arts) and admitted 816 students. Over the years, the university has developed significantly and has become one of the centers for scientific research in Iraq. It currently comprises 22 colleges with 83 scientific departments, manages 11 consulting offices and 16 scientific centers, and publishes 16 scientific journals and periodicals. The university awards bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, and PhDs in various sciences and specializations.

 

The Marine Sciences Center, which is linked to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, is one of the oldest research institutions that deal with Iraqi environmental studies, as well as research and reports related to marine biology and everything related to water and biology within marine sciences covering the Iraqi territorial waters and marine coastal waters in the Arabian Gulf, bordering Iraq.
